6 IG Accounts That Are Actually Helpful for Independent Artists in 2025
I've waded through the social media noise so you don't have to.
My IG algorithm is f*cked.
Every time I open the damn app I’m served one piece of content from someone I genuinely follow, to then be shown five ads from people selling me an online course, or telling me they’ve made USD $9,000 this past month through passive income selling an e-book. Sometimes I get intrigued and sit on a video for a few seconds longer than usual, or I click through to the profile to learn a bit more. This has taught my algorithm that I only wish to be served this type of content and what I now have is a mess of music wantrepreneurs selling me stuff.
It’s got me thinking - sure, some of this is actually helpful and insightful, but if I was an independent artist I might find this amount of information incredibly overwhelming. With all these platforms, what do I prioritise? With all these theories, what cuts through? What should I spend my time focusing on for my own releases?
Also, artists are not one uniform - every artist is so unique, so one blueprint that worked for one artists may not necessarily work for another. What I find that does consistently work however - is being authentic, saying something interesting, showing uniqueness in some way and inviting people into your world and your journey.
That being said, where I’ve landed after wading through a lot of noise on social media, is on a list of really helpful accounts who can help you with your release campaign.
Musformation / Jesse Cannon - has a wealth of information that serves the independent artist community and I would begin here if your music is ready for release. He provides a 60-day rollout plan for releasing your music which you can download for free. Use this to organise your release assets and plan ahead for pitching and marketing. He does have an IG but I’m gonna link his YouTube account here which has all the best info.
Natasha Brito (@natashaeustere) ex-Major Label creative director, demonstrates why building a creative brand going into your campaign is so important. This is also very important to flesh out at the beginning of your campaign so you know the intention you’re going into it with.
Oren John (@orenmeetsworld) is “the Internet’s Creative Director” and he can explain how to market your product tactfully. It’s less specific about music, but worth keeping an eye on when you’re thinking up ideas for promoting your music.
Magic Nothing (@magic_nothing) - is your guy for understanding the digital marketing landscape and using meta conversion tactics to get your music heard. If I lost you at ‘meta conversion’ then grab his helpful course for beginners.
Ana (@flkmiracle) - cool design and helpful platforms if artists are doing all of their own creative assets.
Jabeau (@jabeau) for producers - it’s quite in depth and best for those with technical abilities, but really great videos.
Who have I missed? Let me know in the comments…
p.s. Goodtwin is a Label Services company who also do Management + Marketing consultancy. Get in touch if we can help you strategise your upcoming releases using some of these great tools.
Gosh thanks so much for this! The ad-driven loop of Instagram sounds just too familiar. I’m really enjoying your articles so far!
